TRACES, on the road

Rob Rombout · Yellow Now, Côté photo

The second book of photographs by Rob Rombout with the publisher Yellow Now, after PORTRAITS / on the road. Where the first book gathered people, TRACES gathers places: photographs made while filming, scouting locations or simply travelling, from Pico to Shanghai and from Quito to Odesa. The cover photograph was taken at Cacela Velha, Portugal, in 2024. The book appears in January 2027 in the Côté photo collection.

On the Road – in Bredevoort

Rob Rombout

From November 2025 to January 2026 Rob Rombout’s photographs were shown at the Koppelkerk, an arts and culture centre in Bredevoort, in the Achterhoek. He stayed there for a week in residence, to make sixteen portraits of people living around the church: some were born there, others arrived after detours. He met each of them at home, with only a camera and the daylight from a single window. The book was presented at the Koppelkerk on 22 April 2026.

PORTRAITS / on the road

Rob Rombout · Yellow Now, Côté photo · 120 pages

Rob Rombout’s first book of photographs. The portraits reproduced in this book were taken during encounters on film shoots, location scouts or simply on the road, in anonymous places with no history, where there seems to be nothing to see or do. These are often brief encounters with singular characters. Perhaps their brevity makes them even more profound. With a foreword by Joost de Vries in Dutch, French, English and Spanish.

La mise en scène du réel

Marc-Emmanuel Mélon · Yellow Now, Côté cinéma · 256 pages

Marc-Emmanuel Mélon, a film historian at the University of Liège, reads Rob Rombout’s films as journeys made of fragments of reality, set in forms he calls the clothesline, the lace, the star and the constellation. An essay on the aesthetics of the work is followed by studies of eleven films, from Entre deux tours (1987) to On the Track of Robert van Gulik (2016), with Rob’s answers to Guy Jungblut on production, method and style.
